Non-Hazardous Locations

    • Type 1 (General purpose, Indoor use).   Type 1 provides a degree of protection to personnel against access to hazardous parts and to provide a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt).

    • Type 2 (Drip Proof, Indoor Use).   Same protection as  Type   1 and provide a degree of protection against effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (dripping and light splashing).
    •  
    • Type 3 (Water and Wind Blown Dust, Indoor & Outdoor Use). Protection of the equipment inside the enclosure, against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt and windblown dust), provide protection against ingress of water (rain, sleet, snow); and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice.

    • Type 3R (Rainproof and Sleet / Ice   Outdoor Use). Protection of the equipment inside the enclosure, against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt), provides protection against ingress of water (rain, sleet, snow); and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice.
    •  
    • Type 3S (Dust-Tight, Rain Tight and Sleet/Ice Proof, Outdoor Use). Provides an additional level of protection against corrosion.
    •  
    • Type 4 (Dust- Tight, and Water- Tight, Indoor & Outdoor Use). Provides an additional level of protection against corrosion.
    •  
    • Type 5 (Dust Tight, Indoor).  Protection against falling dirt and settling airborne dust, lint, fibers, and flying); and to provide a degree of protection to the ingress of water (dripping and light splashing).
    •  
    • Type 6 (Temporary Submersible, Watertight Dust- Tight, and Sleet/Ice Resistant,  Indoor & Outdoor, provide a degree of protection with respect to harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (hose directed water and the entry of water during occasional temporary submersion at a limited depth); and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.

    • Type 6P (Prolonged Submersion, Watertight Dust-Tight, and Sleet/Ice Resistant,  Indoor & Outdoor,  provide a degree of protection with respect to harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (hose directed water and the entry of water during occasional temporary submersion at a limited depth); and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.

    • Type 12 (Industrial Use, (without Knockouts),  Indoor use,  enclosure against ingress of (falling dirt and circulating dust, lint, fibers, and flying); and to provide a degree of protection against (dripping and light splashing).

    • Type 12K( Industrial  Use ,  (with  Knockouts) ,  Indoor use,  enclosure build  to  prevent   ingress of (falling dirt and circulating dust, lint, fibers, and flying); and to provide a degree of protection against (dripping and light splashing).
    •  
    • Type 13 ( Oil- tight and Dust – Tight, Indoor ) prevent ingress of water (dripping and light splashing); and to provide a degree of protection against the spraying, splashing, and seepage of oil and non-corrosive coolants.

    • Type 7 (Air Break Equipment).  Indoor Use, locations classified as Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, or D as defined in NFPA 70.

Acutran transformers are designed around different styles and grades of silicon steel cores. Acutran designs around E & I Laminations, Strip Steel, C-Cores and Distributed Gap Cores. Our designs which use E&I Laminations range from ½’’ to 5’’ in size. Both single and three phase laminations are stocked in 26/M50 and 29/M6 grades of steel.

Acutran also manufactures cores using Strip Steel from 1’’ up to 12’’in width using M6, M4 and M3 grade Silicon Steel. We can also design our strip steel cores as a Mitered Core or as Distributed Gap Core further offering superior efficiencies to meet the current DOE and CSA 802.2 efficiency requirements.
